acoustic mimicry



It's amazing what natural selection via sexual selection can come up with. A case in point is the Lyrebird from Australia. Watch and see for yourselves :)

    OK I thought this MUST be a joke, especially with the name "liar bird"! But I google'd and wikipedia'd and spent the past half hour listening to other recordings and I guess this is true!! Well, I'm amazed.

    It's extraordinary! It's interesting that the bird obviously thinks all of these sounds, including that of a chainsaw, are music. Except the human voice it seems.

    How close was this guy to a car alarm and does he also do the beep-beep of someone resetting the alarm? =)
